About Jeff Todd
Who is Jeff Todd?
I'm Jeff Todd, a Houston personal injury attorney who has practiced law since 2000, about 25 years. I represent injured people and the families of people killed by someone else's negligence. I opened my own practice in 2018, and you can read more on my attorney bio page.
Did Jeff Todd ever work for insurance companies?
Yes. I started my career on the insurance defense side, with work in reinsurance, in-house counsel work at Delta Air Lines, workers' compensation litigation in Georgia and insurance defense litigation in Texas. As a former insurance defense lawyer, Jeff Todd knows how insurers evaluate, delay and discount claims, and I use that knowledge to anticipate their moves on your case.

I'm Jeff Todd, and I'm licensed to practice law in Texas, New York, New Jersey and Georgia, and I'm admitted in several federal courts. My practice is based in Houston and centers on Texas injury cases.
Does Jeff Todd speak Spanish?
Yes. I'm Jeff Todd, and I speak both English and Spanish, so you can talk through your case with me in either language.

Case Types
What types of cases does Jeff Todd handle?
At Jeff Todd, Personal Injury Attorney, I handle car accidents, motorcycle accidents, 18-wheeler and commercial truck accidents, slip and fall and other premises liability injuries, workplace and oil field injuries, wrongful death and product liability. If your injury is not on this list, call me and I'll tell you straight whether I can help.
Does Jeff Todd handle slip and fall cases at stores?
Yes. Premises liability is a signature part of my practice at Jeff Todd, Personal Injury Attorney, including slip, trip and fall injuries at large retail stores and other commercial properties. Texas law makes these cases hard, because you generally have to prove the owner knew or should have known about an unreasonably dangerous condition, failed to warn about it or fix it, and that the hazard was not open and obvious. Many Houston attorneys avoid them, and I take them on. See my Houston slip and fall page.
Does Jeff Todd handle 18-wheeler and oil field injury cases?
Yes. Jeff Todd handles commercial truck and 18-wheeler crashes as well as oil field, industrial and other workplace accidents. These cases often involve several companies and large insurance policies, so I start building the evidence early. Read more on my Houston truck accident page.
Which cases does Jeff Todd not take?
I'm Jeff Todd, and I do not handle direct workers' compensation claims or medical malpractice cases, and I generally decline assault cases. I do handle workplace injuries where someone other than your employer is responsible, such as a crash that happened while you were working. If your case falls outside my practice, I'll tell you on the first call so you can find the right lawyer quickly.
Fees and Costs
How much does Jeff Todd charge?
I'm Jeff Todd, and I work on contingency: 33% of the recovery if your case settles before a lawsuit is filed, 40% if a lawsuit is filed and 45% if the case goes to appeal. The percentage rises because filing suit and handling an appeal take significantly more time and resources. For more detail, read my guide to what a personal injury lawyer costs in Houston.
Do I pay anything upfront?
No. Jeff Todd, Personal Injury Attorney charges no fee unless I win your case, and your initial consultation is free. You owe no attorney's fee unless there is a recovery.
How much is my case worth?
I can't tell you that on the first call, and no honest attorney can. The value depends on your injuries, your medical treatment, your lost income, how the accident happened and the insurance coverage available. Once I've reviewed the facts, I'll give you my candid assessment, and I never guarantee a result.
The Process
What happens after I call Jeff Todd?
You start with a free consultation with me, Jeff Todd, and I give you a candid read on your options. If you hire me, you sign an electronic agreement that takes a couple of minutes. I then gather your medical records, document your injuries and damages, and send the insurance company a settlement demand. If the insurer will not pay fairly, I file suit, and when your case resolves, my office handles outstanding medical bills and liens before you receive your recovery.
How long will my case take?
Many personal injury cases take a year or more, and cases that need a lawsuit take longer. Timing depends on how long your medical treatment lasts and whether the insurer settles or a lawsuit is needed. I keep my clients updated and tell them what to expect at each stage.
Will Jeff Todd take my case to trial?
Yes, when the insurer does not offer a fair settlement. I'm Jeff Todd, and I have taken cases to jury trial. Defendants know I will file suit and litigate. Most cases still settle, and I'll explain your options before any major decision.
Getting Started
How soon should I call a personal injury attorney?
